Rei Kawakubo spends as much effort in designing the retail spaces for her clothes as on the outfits themselves.
Dover Street Market in London continues to expand on this theme she started at Comme des Garcons. The Mayfair townhouse that is Dover Street Markets has stalls over six floors which are designed and operated by the stallholders including Alber Elbaz, Comme des Garcons, Junya Watanabe, Didier Ludot, Ann Demeulemeester, Pierre Hardy, Veronique Branquinho, and Azzedine Alaia to name just a few. In addition shoes, books, art objects, and vintage clothes are on offer.
An evolving, chaos theory like mutation of the stalls bring excitement and fun to the site– a retail concept far removed from a multi-brand department store. Definitely a place to go and see and enjoy!
