Is Miyake an artist first whose art just happens to be wearable or a brilliant designer whose collections can be works of art ?  You can answer the question for yourself  or just marvel at the man’s creativity in his stores. 

Miyake creates new fabrics and then applies his inimitable cutting and pleating to arrive at clothing having the geometric aspects of Cubism perhaps yet incredibly fluid when the wearer is in motion.  His works have been displayed in art exhibitions, and he has collaborated in costume creation for dance – which in one case led to his Pleats Please collection.
