Ferré was one of the first designers to embrace and integrate Asian aesthetics with European fashion.  His garments are structures where form and shape take pride of place.  Emphasizing layers are elemental colours – red, black, and gold.  From his first collections in the late eighties (he was at Dior until 1997) women liked the elegance and Euro sophistication – especially in his ball gowns which were ideal for a grand entrance.  And then there are his innumerable variations on the white blouse – cotton or silk, ruffles and cuffs.  Currently, the brand is trying to woo new devotees from the younger generation partly through its use of Julia Roberts in its ad campaigns.
