Elie Tahari collections can be best described as fashionable yet affordable, designed for real people in real situations.  Since the mid 70s Tahari has had the prescience to anticipate lifestyle changes and then brilliantly apply that knowledge in designing clothes that women wanted because as mirroring their aspirations.  The collections fit real women not size 0 waifs, they are well tailored, and the prices are not outrageous.  Not surprisingly, a large portion of the clientele are savvy businesswomen who want to look feminine in a sea of grey suits and who value their hard earned dollars.  Recently though the brand has branched out into shoes and handbags and prices on the latter are up in the ultra-luxe category.  It remains to be seen whether Tahari will remain true to the core clientele of the brand.
